Dey (they/she) is a proud queer Hispanic conservationist who’s passion for nature began through their father’s love and teachings of the unique beauty of Southern Arizona. Dey was fortunate enough to spend time in the local mountain ranges learning about and appreciating the amazing biodiversity of plants and animals in the Sky Islands, a privilege not everyone gets to experience. Deystarted working for BRN in 2021, as a first-time BECY intern and then as a facilitator in 2022that provided opportunities to explore the conservation field. With further experience gained through becoming a Borderlands Earth Care Youth Facilitator in 2022 and 2023, Dey plans to continue their career teaching others about the beauty and duty we have to protect our environment. Dey looks forward to the 2023 BECY program to help inspire and educate the youth in our community.
