LEGACY SOCIETY

Create a lasting legacy that helps Borderlands Restoration Network thrive!

A legacy gift is a meaningful and straightforward way to support our work to rebuild, restore, and reconnect the borderlands. Becoming a member of BRN’s Legacy Society ensures that the issues you care about and the values you cherish will be remembered for generations to come.

Types of planned gifts include:

  • A bequest in your will or living trust

  • A charitable IRA rollover

  • Life insurance policy gifts

  • Gifts of real estate

  • Gifts of stock or mutual funds

  • Retirement-plan or investment-account beneficiary designations

  • And many more

If you would like to make a planned gift to Borderlands Restoration Network, just let your attorney or financial advisor know. You can choose a set dollar amount or a percentage of your estate. Any gift you choose makes a real difference!

Before meeting with your advisor, download our legacy gift information sheet. It includes simple wording you can add to your will if you decide to make a gift.

Scroll down this page to learn about these and other gifts to BRN. If you have questions or want to know more, please contact Laura Wenzel, Development Manager, at lwenzel@borderlandsrestoration.org or (520) 216-4148.

And if you have already made a planned gift to Borderlands Restoration Network, please let us know! We’d love to thank you and welcome you to our Legacy Society.

"During my life, I have watched rivers dammed, acre after acre of fragile desert destroyed for cities, or trees I grew up under chopped down. So I am putting everything I can into protecting and restoring as much of this as possible. In my view, BRN does an excellent job of this, working on both sides of the border restoring and preserving landscapes and waterways as well as making native plants available to the public so each of us can rewild the small bit of Earth for which we are responsible."

Wills
or Trusts

You can designate a particular asset or a percentage of your estate to BRN by including a bequest provision in your will or revocable trust. You can do this when creating your will or trust, or amend an existing one with a simple document. BRN can be either a primary or a contingent beneficiary.

IRAS

If you are 70½ or older, you can make a tax-free distribution from your traditional or Roth IRA to BRN. You direct distributions in the amount of your choosing, up to an annual limit set by the IRS from your traditional or Roth IRA to BRN (other types of retirement plans are not covered by the law). The distributions go directly to BRN and are not subject to federal income tax.

Life Insurance policies

Provide now for a future gift by naming BRN as the beneficiary of a policy insuring your life. At death, the benefits pass to BRN free of federal estate tax and are applied to the program designated by the donor.

Retirement PLans

You can name BRN as the beneficiary of a qualifying retirement plan through a beneficiary designation form, ensuring assets will not be included in your taxable estate. An extra step may be required to designate a 401(k). After your lifetime, the residue of your plan passes to BRN tax-free and to any other named heirs.

Appreciated Securities

You can make a gift of appreciated securities—publicly traded stocks, bonds and mutual fund shares—to BRN while avoiding capital gains tax, diversifying your portfolio and/or securing a stream of income. It’s a simple and efficient way to give.

  1.  You transfer appreciated securities to BRN.

  2. BRN sells the securities and uses the proceeds to fund critical conservation work.

Lynn & Judy Testimonial

Meet Lynn Davison & Judy Clegg, Legacy Society Members

"My wife Judy and I wanted a meaningful way for our investment in BRN's work to continue into the future, so we chose to include BRN in our wills. We believe protecting the land, water, wildlife, and people of the borderlands is critical, not only today but for generations to come."
