Murphy's Bio
Murphy Hazeltine (they/them) was born and raised in the Chugach mountains of Alaska. They have spent the past 20 years living across the western U.S., most deeply rooted in the Chehalis River Valley of southwestern Washington. As a child, they formed a life-long connection to the Sonoran Desert, and in 2023 moved to Tucson to deepen their relationship with this unique bioregion.
Murphy has a background in sustainable agriculture and commercial fisheries. They are inspired by direct relationships with land, living in a human body, and connecting with a diversity of people, plants, and animals, navigating life on this planet. In the best of times, they channel their inspiration through photography, ceramics, language, and song.
As a new hire at BRN’s Watershed Restoration Program, Murphy is eager to learn from the team, get better acquainted with the borderlands, and spend their days with their boots in the dust, tending to the desert as best they can.
