XOCHITL's Bio
Xochitl (she/her/ella) was born and raised in Oxnard, California. Xochitl is a proud first-generation college graduate and the daughter of Ñuu Savi (Mixtec) migrants. She arrives to Borderlands Restoration Network with a background in youth organizing, environmental and recreational planning, education, and hospitality.
After working in higher education for several years, Xochitl gained interest in shifting her career towards conservation and environmental sectors, which led her to complete a trail crew season with Eastern Sierra Conservation Corps.
During her free time, Xochitl enjoys running, hiking, cycling, and backpacking. One of Xochitl’s passions includes making outdoor spaces accessible for young people who might otherwise not have access to recreational or outdoor educational activities. This comes from programs similar to Borderlands Earth Care Youth (BECY) that deeply supported Xochitl in her youth.
